
The Acting Commissioner of Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau (AIB Ghana), Mr John Wumborti has appointed Captain Paul Forjoe as the Investigator-in-Charge (IIC) to lead investigations into the microlight aircraft accident that occurred in Tema.
He made the announcement at a press briefing held in Accra on Wednesday. The briefing forms part of the Bureau’s ongoing efforts to keep the public informed about developments surrounding the accident, which occurred near the Tema Municipal Assembly Daycare Centre, close to Oninku Drive Basic School.
A microlight aircraft with registration number 9G-ADV crashed on March 16, 2026, resulting in the unfortunate loss of two lives.
According to the Commissioner, the Bureau activated its response immediately upon receiving notification of the incident, in line with its statutory mandate. A team of investigators was promptly deployed to the accident site to collect preliminary evidence, including eyewitness accounts, and to document the scene to support the investigation process.
He further indicated that the wreckage has since been secured to facilitate detailed technical examination.



Mr Wumborti noted that a full-scale investigation has now been formally instituted, with Captain Forjoe, Head of Investigations at the Bureau, tasked to lead and coordinate all investigative activities.
The Commissioner assured the public of the Bureau’s capacity to conduct a comprehensive and independent investigation in accordance with internationally accepted standards and best practices.
On the timeline for completion, he explained that while investigations of this nature do not have a fixed duration, the Bureau remains committed to transparency and will provide an update within one month should the final report not be completed by then.
He also urged the public, particularly users of social media, to refrain from speculation and to rely on verified information from official sources.
Mr Wumborti extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and reaffirmed the Bureau’s commitment to establishing the cause of the accident to enhance aviation safety.
Captain Paul Forjoe, upon accepting the appointment, expressed his gratitude for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to lead a thorough and professional investigation.
