AIB Ghana Takes its mandate Awareness to the Streets

The Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau (AIB Ghana) has intensified public education on aviation safety through a sensitisation float aimed at increasing awareness of the Bureau’s mandate and its contribution to safer skies in Ghana.

The float, which formed part of activities marking the Bureau’s fifth anniversary celebration, saw staff members engage directly with members of the public along selected principal streets in Accra. Branded vehicles, safety messages and educational materials were used to draw attention to the critical role the Bureau plays in investigating aircraft accidents and incidents to prevent future occurrences.

Throughout the exercise, staff interacted with pedestrians, commercial drivers, traders and commuters, explaining that AIB Ghana is an independent body mandated to conduct objective and transparent investigations into aircraft accidents and serious incidents, in accordance with international standards.

The team emphasised that the Bureau’s work is not about apportioning blame but about identifying causes and making safety recommendations that strengthen Ghana’s aviation system. They also encouraged the public to promptly report any aviation occurrence or safety concern to the Bureau to support proactive risk management.

Speaking during the float, the Commissioner of AIB Ghana, Mr John Wunborti underscored the importance of public awareness in promoting aviation safety, noting that safety was a shared responsibility that involves regulators, operators, aviation professionals and the general public.

The sensitisation exercise also highlighted AIB Ghana’s collaboration with key stakeholders, including the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), under the State Safety Programme to ensure effective oversight and continuous improvement in the aviation sector.

The public sensitisation float forms part of a broader week-long anniversary programme designed to deepen stakeholder engagement, strengthen public trust and reaffirm the Bureau’s commitment to enhancing aviation safety in the country.
