The Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau (AIB Ghana) has deepened its commitment to public education and youth empowerment by engaging high school students in an interactive aviation seminar aimed at inspiring the next generation of aviation professionals.
The seminar, organised as part of the Bureau’s fifth anniversary activities, brought together students from selected senior high schools for an engaging session on career opportunities in the aviation industry and the critical role safety plays in sustaining global air transport.
Addressing the students, the Commissioner of AIB Ghana, Mr John Wumborti emphasised that aviation was a dynamic and multifaceted industry that offers diverse career paths.
Which he said included pilot and air traffic control, engineering, safety investigation, data analysis and aviation management.
He encouraged the students to dream big, remain focused on their academic goals and consider building careers within the country’s growing aviation sector.
The Commissioner noted that investing in youth awareness was essential to sustaining the aviation industry, as it nurtures future pilots, engineers, safety experts and policymakers who would continue to uphold high standards in the sector.
The school outreach, Mr Wunborti said formed part of the Bureau’s broader efforts to strengthen public understanding of aviation safety, promote transparency and inspire young people to explore meaningful careers within the industry.
Beyond career guidance, the session highlighted the central role of safety in aviation operations.
Students were educated on how robust safety systems, proactive risk management and thorough accident investigations contribute to maintaining public confidence in air travel.
Following the seminar, students participated in a practical exhibition session conducted by some Investigators of AIB Ghana.
During this hands-on engagement, they were introduced to aircraft accident investigation procedures and the specialised equipment used in the field.
Investigators demonstrated how evidence is collected, documented and analysed after an aviation occurrence. Students were taken through the step-by-step process of site assessment, wreckage examination, data analysis and the formulation of safety recommendations.
Many students expressed excitement about the exposure, describing the experience as eye-opening and motivating.
