The Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau (AIB Ghana) has reaffirmed its commitment to improving aviation safety, institutional capacity and accountability at its 2026 Mid-Year Performance Review Meeting held in Accra.
The two-day meeting, held on Tuesday and Wednesday, brought together the Board, Management and staff to assess the Bureau’s performance during the first half of the year, identify gaps and establish strategic priorities for the remainder of 2026.
Opening the meeting, the Commissioner of AIB Ghana, Mr. John M.K. Wumborti, described the exercise as an opportunity to “review, reflect and realign.”
He said the meeting would enable the Bureau to assess targets set at the beginning of the year, examine achievements and challenges, and assign responsibilities for addressing areas requiring improvement.
He emphasised the importance of aviation safety to Ghana’s socio-economic development, noting that a safe aviation sector contributes to reducing the cost of doing business, attracting investment and connecting the country to global markets.
The Commissioner further stressed the importance of ensuring that safety recommendations arising from AIB Ghana’s investigations are effectively implemented.
“Every safety recommendation implemented is something that we build for ourselves,” he said, urging staff to critically assess the timeliness of investigation reports and strengthen follow-up mechanisms to ensure that recommendations translate into tangible safety improvements.
Mr. Wumborti also identified capacity development and stakeholder collaboration as key priorities for the second half of the year.
He assured staff that the Bureau would continue engaging stakeholders and pursuing the resources required to strengthen its capacity and meet international standards.
He urged Management, Board members and staff to participate fully in the strategic review and work collectively to develop practical and sustainable solutions.
The Board Chairman of AIB Ghana, Engineer Daniel Acquah commended the Bureau for organising the strategic review, describing it as an important step in strengthening the organisation’s institutional development.
He encouraged participants to take full advantage of the programme as both a strategic review and a learning opportunity, stressing the importance of staff contributing their ideas and perspectives to improve policies and plans.
The Chairman also reaffirmed the Board’s support for the Bureau and urged staff to approach the programme with commitment and openness.
The outcomes of the meeting are expected to guide the Bureau’s priorities and activities for the second half of 2026, further strengthening its contribution to a safer and more resilient aviation sector in Ghana.
