West African States Advance Aviation Integration at BAG Plenary in Nigeria

The Banjul Accord Group (BAG) marked a significant milestone in regional aviation cooperation with a successful 3-day Plenary Session and Council of Ministers Meeting hosted by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA). The event brought together delegates from all seven BAG member states: Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, Guinea Conakry, The Gambia, Cape Verde, and Sierra Leone.

The high-level gathering focused on strategic interests in aviation infrastructure, regional cooperation, and the harmonisation of policies. Participants reviewed BAG’s key achievements, including the strengthening of aviation safety, operational efficiency, and regulatory oversight across member states.

Notably, the Acting Commissioner of the Aircraft Investigation Bureau (AIB) Ghana and the Acting Director-General of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) actively participated in the discussions, underlining Ghana’s strong commitment to regional aviation progress.

Looking ahead, the meeting underscored the urgent need for coordinated efforts to accelerate the implementation of the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM), which is vital to achieving a truly interconnected and competitive African aviation space.

This collaborative effort aims to position BAG as a leading model of African aviation solidarity promoting a safe, secure, and harmonized aviation sector in West Africa.
